Under the Affordable Care Act, everyone is required to carry health insurance. The open enrollment period started in October, and the first policies will become active on January 1st. But, if you missed the deadline, are you still able to get coverage?
If you have not purchased health insurance yet, there is still time to shop for a policy. The open enrollment period does not end until March 31st, 2014. There are several mini-deadlines between now and then. To get coverage that starts February 1st, for instance, you will need to buy a policy by January 15th. Coverage purchased by February 15th will start March 1st.
Illinois runs its own healthcare exchange where you can compare plans. We are also able to help you navigate the new requirements and look at policies to pick the one that works best for you and your family.
