Is Your Auto Insurance Updated for Fall?

Fall is a great time to update your car insurance.

Fall is finally here!  While fall is a beautiful time of year, it also brings changes that can pose serious risks for car owners.  From the dangers posed by fallen leaves to the increased vandalism on Halloween night, it can seem like there’s a new threat everywhere you turn.  Update your auto insurance this fall and make sure you are protected against these risks.

1) Fallen Leaves

While seemingly innocuous, fallen leaves can pose a real danger to drivers.  If fallen leaves accumulate on the street, they can make the roadway slick and difficult to maneuver.  Additionally, driving through areas where leaves are raining down can obstruct your vision while you’re driving.  Both of these issues can increase your chances of getting into an accident this season.

2) Wet Weather

For many places, the beginning of fall signals the start of a rainy season.  Unfortunately, wet weather can make driving a much more dangerous task.  To make matters worse, excessive rain can increase your car’s risk of sustaining flood damage.  Your car insurance may not cover flood damage, so make an effort to check and update your coverage if necessary.

3) Daylight Savings

Though seemingly irrelevant, daylight savings time could actually increase your chances of an accident this fall.  Because we loose and hour this fall, the days get shorter and the nights longer.  This means that a commute that happened during the day in summer, may now be happening in the dark.  Driving in the dark reduces visibility and can make you more likely to get into an accident.

4) Halloween Vandalism

Unfortunately for car owners, Halloween brings tricks along with treats.  During Halloween, more car insurance claims are filed than on any other day of the year.  In fact, your chances of vandalism actually double on Halloween night.  Common claims include slashed tires, broken windows, and even vehicle theft.  Make sure your car is protected from Halloween mischief by updating your policy.
