Protect Yourself from Identity Theft

Take these cyber security precautions to protect your private information.

In today’s digital age, it’s more important than ever that you have the proper cyber security protections in place.  Unfortunately, all a cyber criminal needs is a small lapse in your security to worm their way into your sensitive information.  If you would like to better protect yourself online, consider taking these precautions.

Update Your Passwords

One of the first things you should do is change the passwords on your various online accounts.  Your new passwords should contain a mix of lower-case letters, upper-case letters, numbers, and special characters.  This will make it much more difficult for a hacker to crack your passwords.  Additionally, you should not use the same password for multiple accounts.  Reusing passwords could compromise the security of your accounts.

Update Your Web Browser

The developers that work on Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and so on are constantly coming out with updated versions of these web browsers.  Along with each new release comes upgraded security features.  That’s why you should always update your web browser when you are prompted to.  These security updates make it harder for a hacker to gain access to your personal information.

Update Your Anti-Malware Software

Every device that you use to access the Internet should have anti-malware software to protect against viruses, spyware, and other online hazards.  If you already have this type of software installed, it’s important that you update it regularly.  Like updating your web browser, updating your anti-malware software strengthens your security and makes it more difficult for a hacker to exploit security weaknesses.
