Giving Back This School Year
With the new school year in full swing, you may find yourself running to the store to pick up those last minute back to school items that you forgot. While at the store, it is the perfect time to help less fortune this school year by picking up a couple extra items for low-income children. Keep these back to school tips in mind to help you give back this school year.
- Donate supplies and backpacks – for low-income families, getting the necessities for school can be a stretch. Check with your school district or local charities to see if there are any school supply donation locations in your area.
- Donate books – the new school year is the perfect time to clean out your bookshelves. Work with your kids to go through all of your books and pick out books that you have already read to donate. Libraries, schools, and community centers are always looking for book donations to line their shelves.
- Volunteer your time – you do not have to spend any money to help out school children this year. Donating your time to tutoring or reading programs can help children get the extra help that they need to ensure that they have a successful school year. Many schools have after school programs that are always looking for more volunteers, or check with your local library to see where you can help out.
