September is National Preparedness Month
Disaster can strike at any time and in honor of National Preparedness Month, residents are encouraged to connect with the Village of Lombard on social media, and to create a family emergency plan. “Disasters Happen. Prepare Now. Learn How.”
Throughout September, the Village of Lombard will share useful tips and information on how to prepare for emergencies. Taking a few minutes to create an emergency kit and an emergency plan now, can help keep your family safe and calm if a disaster strikes.
Families can create a contact list including work, personal and medical phone numbers that children may use in emergencies. Part of your plan should also include a neighborhood meeting place and a regional meeting place in case family members get lost or separated.
Emergency kits should be prepared ahead of time and should include important items including batteries, bottled water, prescription medicines, phone charger and a back-up battery and any necessary medical equipment.
For additional preparation plans and suggested emergency kit items, please visit www.ready.gov/september to learn how to help keep you and your family informed and safe in times of emergencies, disasters or crises.
In times of emergency, the Village of Lombard will notify residents of informative updates on the Village website at www.VillageofLombard.org, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/villageoflombard, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/lilacvillage and through the Village’s e-newsletter at www.villageoflombard.org/enews.
If you are already signed up for these notifications, encourage your family members and friends to sign up as well. Contact Communications Coordinator Avis Meade at (630) 620-5718 for more information.
