Take These Steps to Prepare Your Car for Bad Weather

How to get your car ready for inclement weather.

Just because winter is coming to an end doesn’t mean that it’s the end of bad weather.  To ensure that a major storm or other emergency weather event doesn’t catch you by surprise, take these steps to get your vehicle ready.

  • Document Your Car’s Condition

Make sure you have pictures that accurately represent your car’s condition prior to a storm.  This way, you have proof that any storm damage your car sustains was actually caused by the weather.  Be sure that you take photos of the interior and exterior of your vehicle.

  • Fill Your Gas Tank

Before a major weather event hits, gas up your car and make sure you have additional fuel on hand.  This way, if the weather gets dangerous and you need evacuate, you can safely leave the area without having to worry about running out of gas.

  • Park Smart

If possible, park your car inside a garage, so it has protection from the wind and driving rains.  If garage parking is unavailable to you, parking your car near a building can provide partial protection for your vehicle.  Make sure you avoid parking near trees or under powerlines as they could get knocked down and fall onto your car.

These are some of the things that you can do to prepare your car for bad weather.  Remember, having the right auto insurance is another way to ensure that your car is ready for anything.  Do you need help with your car coverage?  If so, then contact the experts at Steve Wilk Insurance.  Check out our new office today at 310 S Main Street, Suite C, Lombard, IL 60148.
