Car accidents are no fun. They can be very messy, especially if there is a lot of damage involved. You spend time and money trying to get the issue resolved but you may have never thought about what happens at the scene. You have to keep calm and take control. Do you know what to do after an accident? After you’ve determined there are no serious injuries, here are some pointers:
- Call the police immediately to report the accident
- Take a photograph of the damage
- Ask for a police report for insurance purposes
- Get the other parties’ insurance information
- Exchange contact information
- Call your insurance company to file a claim
- If you need a rental car, contact the rental agency for a reservation
- If you were not the party at fault, follow up. Do not drop the ball. Stay on top of the insurance company to get your car appraised and find out how much of the damage will be covered
Taking these small steps will help you get through this process a little bit easier. For more information on auto insurance and handling car accidents effectively, contact Steve Wilk Insurance.
